CAST JOINT SHELVING SYSTEM

Cast iron, Ebonized ash, Steel, Hardware
The cast joint shelving system is an attempt at bringing flat pack case good furniture into the realm of high quality, traditional materials. After some research on a personal favorite, the Eames Storage Unit (ESU) I was disappointed at the cheap materials and multiple reports of the unit legs collapsing as well as many other cheap aspects on such a seemingly high quality piece of casework.
While disappointed by the cheap materials, I have always loved the multiple variations and setups that the ESU has come in and I set out to design a piece of casework or shelving that used high quality materials, was flat packable, could be set up in multiple different orientations and did not break the bank with laborious custom parts. The Cast Joint Shelving System used relatively cheap, mass producible cast iron or cast aluminum joints. There are two styles of joint, a "T" and an "L". With these two joints, multiple configurations can be achieved. The parts can all be mass produced with ease and result in a mass producible piece of flat pack casework that is made of high quality traditional materials.
