F-Chair

2024
Aluminum plate, Hard maple, Steel hardware
The F-Chair was designed revolving around an urge to play with the language of aluminum square tubing. Working on a previous project, I had encountered a bend radius that was too tight to bend out of stock square tubing so the solution was to fabricate these bend sections out of flat plate. Two face profiles and bent flat bar for the walls, cut, bent, welded, and ground.
This process inspired me to consider the possibilities of that process, to sort of mimick the language of square tubing but have new possibilities in terms of radii, joinery and shape. The Joints in the F-Chair are designed to exist in the realm of aluminum square tubing but sort of bend and break the rules of physical possibility within this material to create a unique, novel language of details.
