Sam Sherman is a furniture, lighting and object designer who creates work that is largely based at the intersection of precise craft and material experimentation. His practice is grounded in traditional methods of fabrication, utilizing materials and processes such as metal, wood, mold making and digital fabrication which create a platform for him to research and work in combination with experimental materials and processes such as bio-materials, composite casting, unconventional metalworking techniques and more. Sherman’s experimental work is largely informed by his deep knowledge of traditional craft and manufacturing methods, and focuses on pushing or bending the rules of these materials and processes.
Sherman graduated from the Maryland Institute college of art with a BFA in Interdisciplinary Sculpture and from the Rhode Island School of Design with an MFA in Furniture Design
